At first, I only saw Drew Barrymore’s dress - at last night’s premiere of Going the Distance - from the waist up, and I thought it was a cheap-looking cocktail dress. I was very disappointed, because Drew recently brought the glamour and the beauty to a recent red carpet for Nylon - she looked amazing then, not so much last night. I don’t care for her “growing out the blonde” hair (which needs to be brushed), and now that I’ve seen that the dress is a full-length gown, I still think it looks cheap. Very Vegas showgirl.

As far as Drew’s costar and on-and-off boyfriend Justin Long… well, who knows what’s going on with them? Allegedly, they quietly split up a few months ago, but most people have noted that Justin and Drew seem back “on” for this promotional tour. Friends with benefits? Sure. Especially if the dude loves going downtown, as Justin Long seems to adore. I don’t really find Justin attractive, but he seems like he’s a nice guy, so whatever.

CB put me on high alert about an hour ago that Angelina Jolie was at the Berlin premiere of Salt, and that she was wearing, in CB’s words, “a black tube sack”. We’ve both studied the photos, and I can say with pleasure that La Jolie is not, in fact, wearing yet another black strapless “tube sack”. It’s a black halter sack, and it is not all that great. It reminds me a lot of the white Marc Bouwer Angelina wore to the Oscars in 2004 (I know, I know - I have an encyclopedic memory for crap like this) - only the Bouwer dress was cut on a bias around the hips, so it gave what was, in fact, a “sack dress” an illusion of structure. This dress has no such illusion. It’s just a shiny sack.

I can’t even start with La Jolie. She wore a nice jewel tone and everything just a few hours ago! She hasn’t worn black at all for her European tour, and now she’s fallen back into her comfort zone. As others have pointed out, and I agree, Angelina is not now and never was some kind of fashionista. Her red carpet looks have always been… let’s just call them “hit or miss”. I much prefer her style when she’s doing UNCHR stuff in NYC or Washington - nice suits, great coats and sweaters and pencil skirts. She should bring some of that to the red carpet, in my opinion. It’s not against the law to wear separates on the red carpet. Because La Jolie is in a major “evening/cocktail” rut.

Here are some new photos of Angelina Jolie at the UK premiere of Salt, today, Monday. I am so… disappointed in this look. It’s a look we haven’t seen from Angelina since the Great Glittery Sack Debacle of the 2009 Awards Season. This looks like something Suri Cruise would choose for her mother, you know? It looks like something a kid would pick out, and the line of the dress is very… childish. Very “updated work smock, tied with a piece of ribbon that was just laying around.”

Brad wasn’t there either - my guess is that he’s absorbed in the ‘Moneyball’ shoot, and Angelina either went to Europe alone, or she brought a couple of kids with her, and left a few kids behind. CB mentioned that Angelina is going to be in Germany either Tuesday or Wednesday (I forget), so it’s not like Jolie is just making a quick London run. I always wonder about Angelina alone in London - she lived there off and on for years, and I would imagine she still has many friends and quite a few ex-lovers in town. Do you think she grabbed a quick piece of Jonny Lee Miller? Maybe had a quickie with Ralph Fiennes? NO, of course not.

Drew Barrymore went to a party hosted by Nylon Magazine last night, and this was her look. I was going through the photos of her, and I was kind of amazed by how gorgeous she looked in every single pic. Usually Drew is self-defeating with her styling, mucking up at least one thing, or posing on the red carpet like the hippie-dippy flower child she is. Last night was different - an elegant beaded knee-length dress, beautiful, simple hair and flawless makeup. Is this the Drew we’ve been waiting for? Has she finally grown into the stylish, competent, intelligent, capable woman we’ve been waiting for?

Or is the look too much? Does it age her? Because Drew no longer looks like a 20-something rocker chick/groupie. She looks great for her age (35), but she looks her age too, you know? I don’t know, I really like this. I hope this version of Drew sticks around.

The people at Details graciously sent us these delicious photos of Halle Berry’s baby daddy and maybe on-again boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry. Aubry is a model and it came out during his split news with Halle that he makes almost 3/4 of a million a year. Looking at these dreamy photos of the Canadian model, who turns 34 later this month, you can see why. He’s just so easy on the eyes.

Aubry appears in a pictorial for the September issue of Details. You can see his full slideshow on Details.com, where he demonstrates “how to give suits a ‘bad-boy edge.’” He does wear the hell out of a suit. (And a bathing suit.)

This week’s Star Magazine reports that Halle and Gabriel are sort-of reunited after their much talked about split earlier this year. They were spotted flying to South Africa together in late July with their daughter Nahla, two, where Gabriel reportedly took on daddy duties while Halle was busy filming. According to Star and other outlets they’re probably not romantically back together, though, and are just staying friendly while co-parenting their daughter. Gabriel just got a little hotter, if that’s at all possible.

Halle Berry is no slouch herself. The soon-to-be 44 year-old was named in a Facebook poll by Askmen.com as the hottest celebrity MILF. I hate that term, but Berry does embody it.

As we’ve already seen in bits and pieces, Elisabetta Canalis is the September cover girl for Vanity Fair Italy. People Magazine excerpted several of her quotes a few days ago, but I just saw the full piece online, complete with this photo shoot. First, a word about Canalis as a model: she’s not horrible, but she looks so completely different in every photo. She doesn’t have a consistent face, if that’s not too odd a description. In one shot, she looks like Cindy Crawford, in another, I sweat to God she looks like Camilla Belle. It’s so weird. Anyway, the full piece is here - but you’ll have to access it in Chrome to get a translation. Funny side note: Chrome translated everything into “him”. As in, Canalis is a dude. Also: she’s already banking on being with George until the end of this month, because she confirms she’s his Emmy date.

What’s it like for Eli:

I’m totally embarrassed I missed these quotes from Gisele Bundchen when I was covering her Harper’s Bazaar UK cover yesterday. While Gisele did not discuss Bridget Moynahan, she did decide to ponitificate further about how she’s an amazing mother and how we could all learn at her feet (the feet of a perfect mother), and I totally missed the quotes. Ah, well. Better late than never, eh?

First, a little backstory on post-maternity Gisele: she’s an insufferable bitch. I know, I know. I like her too, and I think she’s interesting and she gives interesting interviews. But she’s also an insufferable bitch. She’s like the Brazilian Gwyneth Paltrow, always deigning to “advise” the peasants how to live their lives. In her Vogue cover story earlier this year, Gisele talked about her maternity weight gain and how quickly she lost it, saying, “I think a lot of people get pregnant and decide they can turn into garbage disposals. I was mindful about what I ate, and I gained only 30 pounds.” Then a month ago, Gisele claimed that her not even 7-month-old son Benjamin was already potty trained, because she‘s an environmentalist: “Diapers pollute the environment. Where does this garbage go?”

Okay, so maybe she’s not as bad as Gwyneth. But wait until you read the excerpts from Bazaar:

Gisele Bundchen has risked the wrath of new mothers everywhere for the second time this year. The opinionated supermodel, who preached about pregnant women ‘treating their bodies like garbage disposals’ in March, has now voiced her views on the breastfeeding.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar magazine, the 30-year-old says, ‘I think breastfeeding really helped (me keep me figure). Some people here (in the US) think they don’t have to breastfeed, and I think “Are you going to give chemical food to your child when they are so little?” I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months.’
